OU Health (previously OU Medicine) is an academic healthcare system through a partnership with The University of Oklahoma. OU Health competes at the national stage as one of the top care institutions available to The United States. They are frequently the organization responsible for pioneering scientific research and methods of care that impact the rest of the world.
This massive, statewide organization was midway through a full rebrand including a name change when my team was involved. The goal of this website was to provide a new digital experience to patients as the primary brand reveal that is set up to scale well into the future. We looked at it like trying to jump on to a moving train and set up the project plan to be able to accommodate exactly that.
As the Creative Director on the project, I hosted many workshops with the OU Health team during several onsite meetings to build a full creative understanding on both teams. Through mood boards, wire frames, and design collaboration the stakeholders in the project felt like they were part of the creative team which built the stage for us to gain approval on the first design pitch. This impacted the rest of the project by removing over a month of revision time that was putting our backs against the ambitious deadline.
One unique challenge of websites at this scale is the unbelievable amount of effort needed from both teams to launch something with tens of thousands of pages. This means that the single most impactful thing we can do for the client is to build this in such a way that it won’t need to be completely redone in three to five years. The modular panels, patient-first design, and powerful healthcare spirit displayed on this site gives it the legs it will need to stand the test of time.
